The Town of Loxahatchee Groves is firmly committed to the proper disposal of livestock waste and, along with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, has been working to control the illegal dumping of horse manure and shavings. We also need your help with managing the use and disposal of livestock waste.
If you are a property owner and wish to receive any manure for agricultural purposes, you are required to obtain approval from the Town Manager before accepting any manure. The permit (which is available on our website) allows up to 20 loads per parcel, which needs to be spread no more than 18 inches within 72 hours of receipt.
The Town is especially concerned about the high incidence of disposal and/or application of livestock waste near open water, including but not limited to drainage ditches, swales, ponds, wetlands, and canals. Town ordinances prohibit the disposal of waste of any kind within 75 feet of any well on the property, as well as within 50 feet of property boundaries. The accompanying permit follows State of Florida best management practices prohibiting disposal and/or application within 200’ of a private well head or water source (300’ if the private water source is down slope of application site), and 500’ of a community well/water source.
Manure that originates outside of Loxahatchee Groves from neighboring communities is strictly prohibited from being deposited in our Town. If you are a property owner and wish to receive any manure for agricultural purposes, you will be responsible for verifying the source of materials deposited on your property. If a waste hauler is discovered transporting manure from outside the Town, we will report the violation to the Village of Wellington
Acceptable delivery times are limited to Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Delivery is not permitted on Saturday, Sunday, or holidays.
